Privacy Policy
In short
- We publish photographs and video of identifiable people only with their agreement. For anyone under 18, we need a parent or guardian’s agreement.
- Magazine features and other documents on this site are credited to the people who published them, and shown with the publisher’s permission.
- You can ask us to remove an image, video or document at any time. You don’t have to give a reason.
1Who we are
Horizon IoT Ltd (“Horizon IoT”, “we”, “us”) runs horizoniotltd.com. We decide how the photographs, video and documents described on this page are used. That makes us the “data controller” under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 and Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022.
Our contact details are in section 11.
2Photographs and video of people
Our Gallery and event pages show photographs and video from events, exhibitions, training sessions, product installations and team activities. We use them to show our work and to keep a record of events.
Some may also be shared on our Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn pages.
Your agreement. We publish a photograph or video in which a person can be recognised only if that person has agreed. A caption includes someone’s name, job title or company only if they have agreed to that as well.
Children. We don’t publish recognisable images of anyone under 18 unless a parent or guardian has agreed.
What we don’t do. We don’t sell images, and we don’t use them for anything beyond the purposes above without asking you first.
3Magazine features and other documents
When a magazine or other publication writes about Horizon IoT, the related event page may show a short excerpt from the feature and, in some cases, a PDF of the original page. Each one is credited with the publication’s name, the headline and the issue date.
The copyright in a feature belongs to its publisher or author. We show these documents with the publisher’s permission and don’t claim them as our own.
Names, job titles and quotes in an excerpt appear as the publication printed them, and we don’t add to them.
A PDF of the original page can also include photographs of people and other names as printed. If you appear in one and want it taken down or corrected, contact us. We will remove it from our site and, where the mistake is the publication’s, ask them to correct it.
4Customer testimonials
If you send a testimonial through our About page, we keep your name, company, role and comment.
We read each one first and publish only those we approve, showing your name, company and role as you gave them.
You can ask us to remove yours at any time.
5Enquiries
Details you send through our contact form are used to reply to your enquiry.
They reach us by email through a third-party email service.
6How long we keep images and documents
We keep published images, video and documents for as long as they are useful as a record of our events and press coverage, and we remove them sooner if you ask.
Once something is public online, copies can exist elsewhere, for example on social media, in search engine caches or on other people’s devices.
We can remove an item from our own site and pages, and we will ask other sites to take it down where we can. We can’t control copies on sites we don’t run.
7Who can see them and where they are stored
Anything published on our website is public.
The files are stored by our hosting provider and the other service providers that help us run the site and our social media pages. Some of them are based outside Kenya and Tanzania, and where the law requires safeguards for data sent abroad, we put them in place.
We don’t sell your images or documents.
8Cookies and analytics
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether to accept analytics and advertising storage. Choosing Accept All lets Google Analytics 4 store analytics data and switches on Google’s advertising signals. Choosing Reject All keeps both off.
We remember your choice in your browser so we don’t ask again. Clearing your browser data brings the banner back.
The site also uses the Meta Pixel, which records page views and contact enquiries for Facebook and Instagram advertising, and a Chatway live-chat widget. These load on every page and are not controlled by the banner’s buttons. Each provider handles that information under its own privacy policy.
9Your rights
Under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 and Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, you have rights over your personal data. Depending on which law applies to you, they include the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used;
- see the personal data we hold about you, including images;
- ask us to correct it;
- object to us using it;
- ask us to delete it, which includes taking down an image or document; and
- withdraw your agreement at any time. Withdrawing doesn’t affect anything we lawfully did before you withdrew.
To use any of these rights, email or call us using the details in section 11. Tell us which page the image or document is on, or describe it, so we can find it. We may ask you to confirm who you are before we act. We respond within the time limits set by law.
Complaints. If you’re not happy with how we respond, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya (odpc.go.ke) or to the Personal Data Protection Commission in Tanzania.
10Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
